FAQs: Can you replay murder mystery games?
One of the many FAQs we get from potential customers and curious hosts is whether or not murder mystery games can be replayed. We understand the question - it can seem annoying to spend money on a product that can only be used once. Read on to find out more about how to replay one of our murder mystery games as many times as you want…
Why should a murder mystery be replayable?
As the host you are the most important person to us. You are the one buying the game, inviting your guests, organising who will play which character, and setting the right atmosphere.
The key to a great murder mystery game is knowing that the host and all your guests have the best time possible. Giving you replayable games is just a small part of how we strive to make this a reality with all of our products!
That being said, we do have two types of games that work in different ways, and how they can be replayed varies depending on which game you go for. Once you know which style of game you like, you can see how they are both replayable in their own ways.
Our fully scripted games give you everything you need to solve the mystery in the questions and answers in your booklets, and provide more of a structure to get you from introductions to the killer reveal. Our evidence based mingling mysteries, on the other hand, give you more flexibility to act out and move around the party while asking your questions and trying to catch the killer.
Our fully scripted games
For our fully scripted games you can’t just replay our games once, but once for every character in the game! Each person has their own storyline where they are innocent and one where they are guilty, complete with means, motive, opportunity, and slip ups and clues to help you catch them out.
To decide who is guilty when you play, you simply pick innocent or guilty slips out of a hat and read those parts. If you are playing with up to 10 or up to 15 players, that means you have up to 15 different storylines and 15 different possible killers so you can replay the game as many times as you wish.
Our evidence based games
With our evidence based games we carefully craft a story where, though there are plenty of red herrings and blind alleys to go down, there is only one killer at the end of the game. So how can it possibly be replayable, you ask? Well it can’t be by the exact same group of people. However, the host can still play with a different group and get a lot of enjoyment from it still.
Our 10-20 player games like our Harry Potter themed game and our Killer 60s Festival come with only one killer, so even the host doesn’t know who it is, and lots of people really like that. Other hosts, on the other hand, have sent messages asking if it is ok to peek so they can decide who to make the killer. Or even so they can tell that person to give them the added difficulty of concealing their crime.
As host you can play the first time not knowing who the killer is, and then replay with another group knowing who to make the killer or even with the fun of playing the murderer yourself!
